It is an Indian melodramatic film starring Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit and Aditya Pancholi. It was released on 8 October 1991. This film is about a girl who falls in love with her widowed father's second wife's brother and they elope to escape her wrathful stepsister. The movie was screened twice in the United States: the first time at the AFI Film Festival in 1993 and again on 27 July 2011 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). The film was promoted with the tagline "Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt and a classic love story". The film was a huge success and thus started a trend in female oriented version of tragic love stories in Bollywood. ""Henna" begins with an unconventional thread of being an ode to strong women who have been subjugated, marginalized and oppressed within the system due to the injustices caused by men. In this case it is about a widow, her son and his wife,"" said Chopra. ""In my immediate family I have always been surrounded by strong women but I have also been brought up without gender bias. My parents have never restricted me by telling me to be a girl or boy. So I was naturally drawn towards the concept of strong women in this film. It is indeed a beautiful story filled with melodrama and romance that revolves around the theme of the power of love instead."" The heroine's mother doted on her as a boy. She has been always been made to feel inferior according to the gender she was born as. The beauty of Madhuri Dixit is lack of shame and shamelessness, which will not let her put up false front in front of any façade or deception, ever ready to face any kind of situation head on with a smile on her face all along. The heroine is an orphan, who finds herself married to her widowed father's second wife's brother. When the heroine finds out that she cannot live with her in-laws because of their strong belief in male superiority. They are also not happy at the idea of sharing the property with one another. The heroine chooses to elope with her lover in order to escape the wrathful stepsister. The climax of this film has a moment where Madhuri Dixit looks in admiration at Sanjay Dutt performing in front of his father with his mother in law, for it shows how Sanjay's mother attempted to stop him from marrying Madhuri Dixit when he was married to Tina. The film ends where the heroine and her lover meet and rejoin each other and embrace each other, with Madhuri Dixit looking at them in admiration. The actress Madhuri Dixit says, "I felt good about playing a role like this one because I could express very freely the things that women feel. It's not just a feeling you get from your mother or your husband or your son, it's also your father who has been around you all through and you think of him all the time." Madhuri Dixit added: "I don't think we realize how much we give away to our children - loving them so much, taking care of them so much while they were growing up. cfa1e77820
